Dr. Jonathan Anuik

Jonathan Anuik is an Associate Professor in the Educational Policies Studies Department in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. A long standing member of CAFE and its SIG CHEA, he has acted in the very
challenging role of Second Vice President (Programme Chair) position for the past few years. Each of these years, a face-to-face conference was supposed to be held in Alberta (2021) and in Montreal (2022), only to have it pivot to an on-line venue.

Dr. Sandra Kouritzin

Sandra Kouritzin is is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning of the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba. A longstanding member of CAFE, she has held a few positions on the executive committee in the last few years: First as a CJE representative, then as the Secretary-Treasurer since 2019.

Second Vice-President - Program Chair

Dr. Jeannie Kerr

 

Jeannie Kerr is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, and co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Education (CJE). She is a long-standing member of CAFE and has previously been the CAFE representative on the Board of Consulting Editors for CJE, and for the past four years has held the First Vice-President (chair of awards) position. She is currently responsible for the Program for CAFE at CSSE - the first in-person conference in three years. She is a member of the executive of the CAFE SIG Canadian Association of Sociology of Education and co-Program Chair for that growing SIG.

Dr. Gemma Porter

Gemma Porter is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Saint Thomas University. She is currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer of CAFE as well as Recruitment and Outreach Officer, and is also President of the Canadian History of Education Association.

Past President
Dr. Lynn Lemisko

 

Lynn Lemisko is a professor in the Department of Educational Foundations in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. Her teaching experience includes seven years of work in Alberta public school systems where she taught students in grades four through nine, and many years of teaching post-secondary students courses in Canadian and European history, trends and issues in curriculum development, social studies curriculum and instruction and the history of education.   Her research interests include investigations into issues in teacher education (past and present), social studies & citizenship education, and the history of education.

Dr. Michelle Forrest

Michelle Forrest is Professor of Philosophy of Education in the Education Faculty at Mount Saint Vincent University and a long-serving member of CAFE and its SIG, CPES, from which she received its Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Her article “Sensitive Controversy in Teaching to be Critical” received the CAFE Article Award in 2010, and in 2019, with collaborators Sandra Bruneau and Linda Wheeldon, she delivered the CAFE keynote address, “Women Philosophers of Education in Canada.” Michelle has served as CAFE’s representative to the Advisory Board of the Canadian Journal of Education since 2015.

Dr. Paul W. Bennett

Dr. Paul W. Bennett is Founding Director of Schoolhouse Institute, Adjunct Professor of Education at Saint Mary’s University, and the author of ten books, including two nationally-recognized Canadian history textbooks and The State of the System: A Reality Check on Canada’s Schools (MQUP 2020). Since the late 1980s, Paul has been a member of the Canadian History of Education Association (CHEA/ACHE) and, since 2010, has presented many papers at CHEA conferences. Dr. Bennett teaches Educational Foundations courses to SMU graduate education students. From 2017 to the present, Dr. Bennett has been Chair of researchED Canada and hosted five of its national conferences. He’s produced dozens of education policy reports, many on historical topics, most recently for the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, the Cardus Foundation, and IRPP Policy Options.

Dr. David Waddington

David I. Waddington is a Professor in the Department of Education at Concordia University who specializes in the philosophy of education. Current research foci include teacher free speech, video games and citizenship, philosophical questions in science and technology education, and the history and philosophy of progressive education (esp. John Dewey).

CASE President

Dr. Alana Butler

Dr. Alana Butler is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University. Her research interests include the academic achievement of low-socio economic students, race and schooling, equity and inclusion, and multicultural education. Her teaching and publications engage with critical social theories, Black feminist theories, and decolonial theories.
